Hi All. I have offers from MobiKwik and Target for the role of Data Engineer.
Which organisation should I go fo?r. Please consider factors like job security, work quality and learning, WL balance and office culture.
They're both offering similar CTC and location is preferable in case of MobiKwik. My YoE is 3.

Both are crazy expensive. Seattle doesn’t have nor understand sarcasm. You just walk around hurting people’s feeling all day
I moved from NYC to SF. It’s a nice city. Not as interesting as NYC. Quieter. Less diverse in a lot of ways, not just ethnically (meet 5 people and they all have the same 5 hobbies...biking, yoga, costume parties, burning man, wineries). I exaggerate...but it’s a cool enough place. Beautiful to look at. Amazing Mexican food. Great sunsets. Better work/life balance. Just don’t expect anything similar to east coast cities. It’s different. If you’re into SF’s list of hobbies, you’ll do well. If not, you might go insane from boredom.
Used to live in NY and live in SF now. My life is infinitely better here. The weather is great, the people are nicer (and less stylish), my work is more interesting, nature is unreal, weed is legal, salaries are higher (especially in tech) and work life balance is so much better.
NY peaked 10-15 years ago imo, and that’s one of the reasons so many people are heading west. So many NY expats here who have similar feelings.
Seattle is also super cool, just a bit more depressing weather.
Good luck on your move!
NYC is the worst place you could consider moving right now. EVERY agency has laid people off from nov 2017 till now. There are HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS unemployed right now.
SF burritos give me life
A lot of SF and it’s easily accessible surrounding areas is absolutely gorgeous. Definitely a bit slower paced life, but it just feels like there are more hours in the day here than in NY
I would argue there’s more to do in and around SF than NY. Whatever you’re into is in the city or less than an hour drive: beach, mountains, rivers, wineries, some of the restaurants in the world, national parks... it is shockingly more expensive though. People brush that off because New York. But my rent went up $1200 for the exact same space
@Designer 1 - if you’re used to NYC’s pace, it’s much slower. People are friendlier. Although sometimes in a fake way. A lot of the cool stuff in the area is outside the city (vs NYC where the city is the “cool” thing). So you may want a car...I didn’t get one, but I regret it. You can also just rent one for day trips, of course. Public transit isn’t as great. I’m 2 trains away from anything in NYC. In SF if your friends are throwing a beach party, you might be 3 buses away. Or expensive Uber. I moved back east months ago...SF wasn’t for me. But I get why people like it. It’s more of a small town vibe. Nice people. Less stress. Better balance. Oh and uh...discarded needles.
If you’re prone to depression, I’d highly suggest SF over Seattle. It’s grey there most of the year and it really affected my mental health. Also, Seattle is chilly toward outsiders. Like Boston, it’s insular, even in the industry. If you have a lot of friends in Seattle and can work with the nasty weather, Seattle is a great option.
SF is great. Just be prepared to drastically lower your standard of living. Other than that, it’s actually a pretty amazing place. Don’t listen to all the east coast haters. They’re bitter and jealous and cold.
Hey Freelance1,
I live in the East, curious how different it is compared to the West? Thinking of moving there 😄
If you move to SF, you can look forward to living through (or not) a major earthquake .
I love SF. Def super expensive, I think now that is so expensive is not as interesting as it used to be before. Also accept the earthquake fact. I used to live in Oakland and the weather there is even better than in SF.
*best
@senior AD 2 I currently live in NYC and I have no issue being here, but am considering a change seeing that I’ve been here for a while.
Everyone else, thanks for the info, I really appreciate it!
