Realistically you probably are at 6yoe, your current employer is paying you well above market rate even excluding the 60k retention.
To me this translates into you are getting a lot of love and equity in your current setup, I wouldnât give that up that easily. No company pays you a lot just because, and titles donât mean much relative to real $s in your bank account.
I guess my q to you would be, why do you think things are not going well enough in your current employer to stay? Is it just you being antsy or something else?
+1 this opportunity is the dream lol
Stay at least for the retention bonus.
By early next year, maybe assess then if you need to leave or not and if thereâs a company willing to pay as much (might be tough but you never know).
Iâd keep looking to find something that has the right balance of comp and responsibility/title. You might very well have to take a pay cut, you just need to decide if itâs worth it. I personally wouldnât leave for a pay cut unless you really donât like your current position or the new one offers something really enticing.
That's a ludicrous amount of TC. Just stay for now. Assess situation next year.
Director is just a title. I have seen directors that didnât direct anything. Your compensation is frankly excellent at your age and you could retire early if you wanted to.
Iâll take your job if you donât want it
I have interviewed around (all hardware / consumer goods focused) and almost nowhere will offer even half that for TC. Is it worth sticking around until something comes up that matches or beats my TC or is it best to just jump sooner?

Youâre interviewing at the wrong companies. Twilio will pay 400k for a Strategy Director.
You're young so it might make sense to take a long term view at your career. And again your young, is there any reason that you will have to move before your retention bonus. Also if you don't think you will find the comp you want/now have, it would make sense to spend time finding the right position that will get you the experience for you next move or have the right opportunity for advancement. And that could take some time to find. I'm guessing your just thinking this through but you really don't have to make a firm decision until you have an actual job off to accept.
Move on and negotiate a $60K sign on bonus with your future employer to keep you whole
Think about cost of living v comp. The reason youâre getting 440k is because the cost of a single family home is around 1.5m in a decent area (Iâm guessing - probably 1200 square feet).
Where I live I have 275k target comp and 400k will buy a fully update 2500 sq ft home 15 minutes from downtown major city.
Today I learned interwst only mortgages exist lol

If your company is going down the tubes, how secure is that 150k in RSUs?

Wait, your company is pre-IPO? So that basically means the equity has a ton of room to run.
Stay where you are!
