Not answering your question but how was that transition from audit to tax?
I’m at a firm slightly smaller than MA. I’ve been in PA for 5 years and have worked in my industry group since day 1. For the first 3.5-4 years I was 75% audit/25% tax. It got to the point where my technical ability tax wise was on par with tax people so it was a very easy transition. I had the specialized industry knowledge, knew the clients, etc. Mainly was sick of the travel and overall was bored AF in audit. Tax is more mentally stimulating, perhaps more stimulating than I’d like, but overall find it a lot more fulfilling.

If you want to be CEO or even more on operations side of things not sure tax was the right move. FP&A or some kind of operational role would make more sense
You should really be looking into management consulting experience to pave that path for you.
A mentor of mine did this route: auditing healthcare company => work for healthcare consulting company => took a job in operations at a hospital => climb ladder => COO at one of the most prestigious children’s hospitals in Philadelphia. (Btw lots of people don’t realize how much money top hospital administrators get paid)
