Currently a 4PQE litigator with two small children working in a global large private practice firm and my hours are awful (usually 10/12 Hr days and weekends) but I love the work. I’ve just received an in house offer which will be primarily transactional, 100% work from home and a pay increase on current hours. Torn as to whether or not to accept the offer? Has anyone changed to transactional work and regretted it and I presume the hours will be much better.

I moved from litigation at 2.5 PQE to a primarily transactional role. I enjoyed it. It was a totally different pace and I felt a lot more in control day to day. After two years, I felt a bit bored. It was easy enough to go back to litigation. Now 10PQE and still litigating. I learnt a lot from doing something different and I feel it made me a better lawyer. Knowing that I can always change lanes again can make it easier to cope with the demands.

Your hours sound tough. In-house would be better I’m sure.

WFH might be a blessing with children but can make it difficult to stay connected with colleagues and the broader profession.

Ultimately, I think you have to trust yourself and know that if it’s not for you, you can make the move back. If now isn’t the time - you got this offer and could probably get another in a year or two.

This is greatly appreciated advice thank you. New employment contract all signed! Looking forward to in-house.

I work 2 part-time jobs. I just requested a pay raise at my ABA job which they approved on by 10%. My other job is in Mental Health has a flat rate with no chance to request a raise, turns out I'm not required to work the full 20hrs/Week meaning that when there's no work to complete I won't be getting paid. I've only been here 8months & want to leave as I need the money. Should I start looking elsewhere even if I haven't been here for a year?

I have a partner who routinely ignores emails or responds to them several weeks later. He has to approve every single document sent to the client or the court, which means you have a physically go to his office to ask him to review something. Half of the time you go to meet with him in person, he’s either on a call or otherwise busy. I find that this basically creates more work and makes meeting deadlines extremely difficult. Is this normal?
