Currently a controller at a startup, but I feel so bored. I have someone below me doing AR/AP so then I feel like there’s not much left for me to do. I cleaned up the books to get them audit ready, and now everything is super easy. During month-end I do about 1 hour of close work each day. Then I try to fill in my time with other long term projects.

Are controller positions at bigger companies more busy? What exactly do they do?
Or should I look into advisory?

How hard is it to switch from Audit to consulting? I’m currently based in Europe but plan to go home to the Middle East. I’m in AWM for funds. Thanks alot!

Hello, I am in USI GES tax at DUSI. I love my job but not my team and mgmt anymore. I'm a performer and I'm dumped with work of 2 ppl while others are searching for work. I am burned out.

I resigned and accepted a job with EY GDS with a huge pay bump that DUSI can't match but I also gave up my potential promotion for 2023.

I am contemplating a move to industry working at a VC, Tax Director role east coast. Looks like it will be primarily overseeing compliance with some aspect of advising on structures etc. There is another tax reporting head above me.

The potential comp is the low 200k with a 10% bonus (still higher than what I am making). I feel this is pretty low for VC standards but maybe my standards are also too high. I have generally seen 25% bonus with carry.

Any thoughts?

If you make it to senior manager at big four can you leave and become partner or director at mid size firm? Is this hard to do? I know there is a lot of politics at big four and have no interest staying in a senior manager role for 6-8 years and risk a chance of still not becoming partner. Also I got a long way to go before senior manager fyi.

Should you discuss salary range with an internal company recruiter prior to setting up an interview? With external recruiters it’s pretty easy to talk about the expected range. I am trying to avoid wasting all of our time if i get to the last interview and they are expecting a salary that is too low for me.
