Pros and cons to both. Do you want to work with SEC reporting deadlines? Stricter deadline and really no breaks in between for closing books. Private just had an annual audit and disclosures are simpler. I personally would never go back to a public company, but to each their own. If you have ambitions to climb F500, stick with public companies. But there’s good money everywhere.
I left a huge public company (F15) to go to private equity as Controller and was in a state of shock for the first 6 months... it's crazy going from a very controlled environment to basically no controls. I told people that I felt like I was in the wild wild west. I lasted a year and then went back to a public company (F500) where I'm at currently. So I recommend going for it because you can always move again if you don't like it.
No I didn't have any experience. A recruiter just hit me up on LinkedIn and asked if I was interested.
