Currently an A3 in audit. My team communicated to me that they’re pushing for me to get mid-year promo (Jan 2022) but I’m also interested in leaving to another Big 4 for AAS as an S1. Current salary is $73.6k and am unsure of how much I should be going for to make the jump worth it. I know EY FAAS offered a friend $85k in my market but assuming I get mid year promo I’m not so sure the salary bump would be significant enough. How much room for negotiation is there with Big 4 experienced hires?

Few things to consider here, you want to move to a different group but if you stay it will the same old group. The other thing is you can ask for more when you move, even 90K. If you really want to change groups, I would move now instead of waiting that way you can move again in a year from now and get good money if you are not happy from money point of view, instead of waiting until January or later to move. Also, who knows if you will even be promoted mid year.

helpful

I wouldn’t bank on the mid year promo. They like to tease you with the idea and screw you when the time comes.

If you want out of audit, I would go now

like

Then there’s the off chance I don’t end up getting the mid-year promo. Any thoughts? Thanks!!

That's not the off chance - that's the likelihood. They're dangling a carrot, and come December if it doesn't go your way, busy season is starting up and this hot job market maybe different, and you're still in audit...

I think years of experience will ultimately make the difference. The senior title at a big 4 that does only 2 years of associate vs A3 at pwc shouldn’t make a big difference. The question is whether they’d be willing to take you as an S2 if you wait until January if you get and early promo at pwc. It might be a tough sell but in the current market who knows.

If you’re looking to switch to FAAS, we’re hiring a ton right now. I’m sure they’ll be hiring in 6 months too but your odds are a lot better now. DM if you have any questions, recently joined FAAS earlier this year

Experience has been great so far. Steady hours as of now since I’m on a longer term project (40-45 hours). If growth prospects = exit opps, then it’s pretty much how you spin your experience aka more transactions based (buy and sell side) vs technical accounting

Go!
Only sure thing in life is death and taxes! Mid year promo is a not a sure thing.

Go. The AAS salary trajectory is much higher than audit so just jump now.

🐠, I was laid off from industry during covid and started consulting this year, which was a step back in terms of level and salary. I have received an offer that would allow me to course-correct and advance past where I was before. I like my current firm and have put a lot of effort into making it my new home; however I don’t like my project and am stuck on it. I am terrified of making a move so soon into a role that isn’t a fit or worse, results in another layoff. Appreciate all perspective!
