McKinsey & Company Has any industry experienced candidates pivot to MBB Engagement Manager before? My roommate works at FAANG as Senior Analyst (Ops, 6+ YOE) and was approached by McKinsey & Company recruiter for an EM role. He hasn’t done consulting before. Would this be too much of a risk? His goal is to pivot to PE S&O eventually.

NYC > Boston every day from a lifestyle point. If you've never lived in NYC do it. You won't regret trying it out.
Con: cost of living. Are you aligned to a particular practice? If FS, move to NY. If healthcare, stay in Boston, save money. Also harder to make friends in NY.
Yes Do mostly Financial services thats why New York makes sense professionally. How much can I expect to pay more in rental costs as compared to what Im paying currently?
A nice studio is around 2300 here. A nice share around 1700.
On the same boat as you, OP. Would like to hear what FB fam says
You can get a decent place for that much in nyc as well
Go where your firm leadership is. That being said, I am having to shell out $5000 in NY to move and am crying. It will impact your savings do sure.
I believe Boston will be cheaper in terms of cost of living .also it has a lot of opportunity n growth now .i guess it's as cold as buffalo though 😒
Come to NY if FS. I made the same decision last year. But be very careful of expenses.
By what % can I expect non rental expenses to go up? Fine paying 2000 for rent. Apart from rent will other expense go up too? Monday to Thursday should still be travel mostly unless I really want to be on a local project.
Nakedapartments.com is a good app for rentals.
I see $1,500/mo for studios and one bedroom in Astoria even some in the city. Don't be stupid paying more than what you're already paying in Boston.
You can live comfortably on $3500 per month if you don't have loan payments. Save the rest.
You can move to NYC and rent a place far out for cheaper than that to save cash.
