Currently in NYC and my lease is up end of the month. Looking to relocate to a lower COL city while we’re remote. Thoughts/advice? Any other NYCers leaving also? Just feel like I am paying way to much to sit in a studio here for another 6-10 months or whatever it might be.

I’ve been a freelance print production designer for many years, and usually on-site in the before times. Now I work remote, and am finding it uneasy dealing with billing. Before I always billed hourly, which made sense, but it’s becoming an issue now. Live in a smallish southern city and my roommate is going to be leaving town before the lease is up. Rather than her getting subleasers, I’m going to take the rent over for the last two months.

I’d like to stay in the same apartment complex but can’t sustainably pay (about) the same amount long term. How much do we think I could try to negotiate rent down? Rent right now would be between $1200-1300 monthly. Start them at $900 and see how it goes? Or lower/higher?
