I worked for Yelp for almost a year. The review system is structured where it looks for qualified users. That means they engage with Yelp and usually have several reviews. If your customers rarely review or just sign up to review, chances are they will get assigned to the bottom drop down where the system puts reviews from customers they aren't quite sure about. They would say the algorithm was designed to wend out soliciting reviews and also people that are trying to review bomb
Nope. If you ask they will just say it's the algorithm and can't be adjusted. Not much you can do. I would honestly work on Google Reviews. I feel people use that more than Yelp .
Such a frustrating situation! A lot of small business owners need Yelp and Google reviews to be able to increase business. I understand that it's an algorithmic issue, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating!
I think that Yelp is a sham; I hope most people take those reviews with a grain of salt.
Why did Yelp remove any of them?
Don't use or worry about Yelp. Have a Google search profile and continue to build a good reputation.
I just had a new client find me on Yelp. He messaged me on Yelp through their own website. Then he left me a review saying I did a good job. They hid the review for being fake. They literally know he is a real person since he used them to contact me.
I was told that Yelp has an algorithm that removes "low-quality" reviews automatically. This translates to them removing most reviews. Some have accused them of making you pay to keep reviews, but from my research, this isn't actually true. They just really like deleting most reviews. Now, if you pay to promote your business, there will probably be more reviews left and, thus, more that aren't removed. But there is scant evidence they won't delete them if you are a subscriber.
