Similar story here. 2.5yo and 6 week old. 2.5 has had massive sleep regression for last month with bedtime taking 2-3 hours each night and then multiple night wakings, not to mention tantrums. Baby been okay, but is so monotonous and in constant need of something at this stage.
Agree limiting commute helps (I'm wfh) and also worth ensuring both you and partner are getting some exercise and mental space (try some meditation).
Everyone tells us it gets better once they are a bit older, but hard right now.
Sick kids throw everything totally out of whack. Is there a chance you can be remote and get back that travel time?
This seems pretty much like my life but I don’t do the AM or evening emails. I’ve just decided I’ll be worse at my job in favor of being better for myself and my family. That’s always an option too.
It’s just how it is. Until kids get much older, they need you for everything. We joked that our kids were the platinum rewards members of our family.
My youngest is 10 now so they’ve downgraded to silver. We all get sleep, we all have our own me time/hobby time, we are not short order cooks making special meals for anyone…it’s great.
Hang in there.
This actually makes me feel much better. Nice to know that this is just how it is, gotta think longer term. Thanks, Strangers and praying to the sleep gods for all of us!
You're doing nothing wrong. You have two kids so your schedule gets busy and you lose sleep.
After four kids in eight years I can sympathize with you. Even though my youngest is now 5, I still only get about 6 hours of sleep a night, but it doesn't bother me anymore. Now I'm up late making lunches, folding laundry, checking homework, putting things away, etc. I also try to give myself about an hour of me time at the end of it all and just sit and have a late snack and watch some TV.
Dude, this is me but add a PreK. 🫠
3 and 4 year old same schedule - wife and I are both burnt out
I’m burnt out with 1 child. Can’t imagine 2 , you aren’t doing anything wrong.
If possible take couple of hours to grab couple of drinks or movie or massage to recharge yourself
Same here.. 4.5 year old and 2 year old. It gets slightly better once infant gets a little older
More or less same schedule as u + wife working full time. Keep feeling constantly burnt out
-5pm leave work, home by 6 to do dinner with 4 year old
-730pm bedtime, bathtime for 4 year old, in bed by 8/830
-clean up house and prep for next day (eg kids snack)
-930-1030 catch up on work
-back to sleep around 11pm ish
Is this just how it is with 2?!?
Fyi, wife is on mat leave but managing baby. She picks up the 4 year old from school.
