How supportive is your partner? I think this is where you need to ask for help. Also I find conferenced that occur during the workday to be good for networking.
I have heard that you need to find 3 mentors:
1. A mentor on your level so you can relate to someone.
2. A mentor a level above you so you can aim higher/ have reasonable expectations
3. A mentor that is Uber-successful where they raise your expectations that you have for yourself by example.
These people are around you in your daily; book 30 min coffee chats...arrange to meet at networking events with one 1:1 drink after...book a breakfast catch-up session that has an assigned timeframe.
You give up on night-time networking events. 🙃My response suggested 30 min coffee chats, and a breakfast catch-up session - I’ve even done a “smoothie break” with a colleague that was health-focused. These actually turn out to be very focused conversations in a good way.
As far as finding the mentor(s) ...you have to give up on finding one that is “doing everything right” and find one that is doing a few things you would like to learn about and ‘try on’ - you would be surprised at how much people want to help and share. Even if they aren’t the perfect mentor; they could be a smoothie away from your ultimate mentor - one that you could have never found with a cold ask (one that your not-so-perfect mentor introduces you to). Just start!
