It’s a huge move to go from operations to IB. How’d you even pull that off?
Take the IB role and don’t think twice.
Appreciate you!
Accounting Big 4 is a joke, over worked really under payed. Better exit opportunities with IB.
Yes and it’s not even about B-School…once you get into IB, you’re part of the “club” and will set you up for internships and post MBA opps…I’d say hang on to the role until you get into b-school though
Take it
Just go at it with a “learn as much as I can approach”. Communicate big events you’ll need to take off for in advance to save your sanity and personal life. I think you can make it a year if you treat this as (cheesy but true) real-life business school and view it as a massive cost savings / income opportunity for yourself.
Yeah 100%. Just make sure you’re learning processes and building technical skills, etc. so that in a downside case if it’s not a good fit you have something to offer. Otherwise in a case study or interview it’s going to look like you were the problem not their culture etc.
You guys think 6 months is better than no stint if I land a bad situation?
yes just take it. 3 months IB is better experience than B4
Rising Star
You’re in OPs, it’s crazy hard to get out of there in general. I’d take it do a year and then go wherever after if you don’t like it. The exit opps in IB is unmatched in most places..
Hi I work in IB and have been for a year and a half. I would say IB is good if you get placed into a good group. I’m at a BB but my group isn’t tech or M&A and my exits are okay. Unfortunately, I’m trying to break into tech right now and IB does not really help with the roles I want. It really depends on what you want to do with your life.
Rising Star
To go from an ops role to IB role just take it and jump. Ops is really dead end in my opinion and low pay overall. Here you will get a bunch of doors opened up for you and you can relax after you pay your dues and do the initial grind.
Which type of IB are you talking about? Sales / Trading, ER? Investment Banking Analyst?
IB analyst
