Did some of you start freelancing while having a full-time job? When did you know it was time to commit to only freelance? I think I’m nearing that stage

I came after being burnt out. There was so much input and little output going on. I figured I could at least get time back and use freelance as a way to try out agencies instead of just signing into the next thing.

That’s good to know. I’m in a market with 4ish great agencies and maybe a dozen that do decent to good work. I’m hoping to expand my networking here a bit more before jumping into only freelance work.

My freelance came about after mass layoffs.

You can pickup some projects while full time, sure. But I think the kind of work that’s steady enough to help pay rent requires you to be in an office. After building relationships at a few freelance jobs, they were fine with me working remote. But it may be hard to establish that trust if you’re working 40-50 hours at a full time gig.

I agree. Right now I’m doing some projects remotely for a CD in SF, have had some freelance projects here in town at smaller agencies, and have recently met with a very, very well-known brand/design studio who wants to bring me in for projects (could be for a while too).

My full-time gig is flexible. It’s at a tech company’s in-house ad agency. The work is not good, haven’t been able to build my book whatsoever. The money however, is really good

So now I’m debating. Do I try and juggle both? The design/brand studio has done great work and said they’d want me in the office if possible. I said I could make it work and I’m (sort of) on my way to just being only freelance anyways.

Sure. Did both for many years. Decided to become freelance only when the day job fired me, though it was not because of the freelancing - it was just the usual polite stuff

Ahh gotcha.

Say, let me run my scenario by you. Would love your advice.

I work full time for an in-house ad agency at a tech company. The work is very dry, not helping me build my book, is a 45 min commute both ways, and can be stressful. That said the pay is good.

I’m early on in my career and have a decent amount saved now. Think it’d be wise to jump ship and become a freelancer until I can get into one of the better agencies I moved to this city for?

Or, keep doing what I’m doing, work the full time gig and then freelance nights/weekends and just keep doing this for a while until I hopefully get into an agency I’d prefer.

Thoughts?

Hello! I have a two part question: 1) is it worth it to obtain an SHRM specialty credential if I don’t have the broader SHRM certification? 2) has anyone gotten the People Analytics or Talent Acquistion credential? If so, how valuable was it from a learning perspective? Do you feel it significantly contributed to your knowledge in either area? Thank you!

Hi friends, need you suggestions here

I am a CA with 5 years of post qualification experience (with one of the big4). I joined PwC k SDC as SA2 last year December. Now I realised that, I am placed a level below than compared to my peers. Can I ask HR to match my level based on my experience?

PS: My previous employer is offering me to join back as a Manager but I am inclined for PwC for WFH.

Please suggest

Thanks in advance
