Why do we give awards to students for ideas that will never happen/are ridiculous? Netflix will never make an ad unit on their app, that would sell you Burger King burgers when burgers appear in movies or shows. That's just stupid. How did this win? What am I missing?

For me my ambition changed. Before kids I wanted the best career possible with the money and prestige that came with it. Now that I have a kid my ambition is to be extremely involved with my son’s life but also have a successful career which I now define differently. My dad was not around at all when I was kid due to his selfish reasons, so I want to model different behaviors to my son.
Mine boosted and got supercharged after the kid.
I see more value in being present for my kids than squeezing every last drop of money out of my career.
“Go win the world” hmm. The answer to this question is Yes. But I suppose the ambitions changed - so you can’t say they have tamed down but rather changed to “Go be the best dad I can be”. I think you have to realize that as a father it’s not about you anymore - there is another human being who “entirely” depends on you. It’s a difficult concept to grasp until you become a parent.
K1, totally second your emotions. Going through the same emotions so trying to seek validation.
Never had them. Smoked a lot of weed
Thanks SC1. I am an immigrant and had a lot of struggle growing up. So coming to the USA was always to realize the American dream, become very successful and rich. After I had kids it changed coz the definition of success moved to family vs. Career/$.
I think the answer to the question “What was the greatest emotional challenge you faced during your childhood?” decides a lot.
If you saw financial struggles, you would want to provide your kids the best financial safety. If you felt emotional turmoil, you would want to be present more for them.
Preach, the financial and emotional double whammy is tough
