You seriously only asked for 8% more?
So you asked for a number. And they matched it? And you want to now counter your own number?? I don’t think this sets the right precedent. I wouldn’t see such a candidate as trustworthy
If this is the case- I would challenge OP to see if something new about the role, expectations came/could come into light to support a counter to her original number.
Shalom- I asked for 7k more than the highest point of the range
Shalom to you too
you played yourself
White male. The first rule of negotiation is whoever offers a number first loses. Sorry. Take the best offer matching your wants / needs and be happy. You are obviously ready to move on. So do it.
I need advice pls not judgement.
Yes Consultant one- going from manager in consulting to Dir industry. This forum is always interesting bc the last offer I received was 5k less than my current salary before our recent pay increases and everyone on that thread told me to jump. The thing is- Deloitte is laying off- point blank and period. I’m being offered a role that is not my speciality but they believe in my impact. My thought is to go w a sign on since I will miss their year end cut off by only a few weeks. Additionally I have an Amazon offer on the table so I do have leverage. I really just wanted perspective from others
That is why the whole story needs to be taken into account. You're taking a jump higher, so that's a positive. But what about total YOE, MBA industry ?
Frankly all for joining bonus and then take the offer... The WLB balance would be totally worth it and you can always use this to move in a year or twos time.... Don't beat yourself too much on this.... The next $5k-10k isn't going to make a major difference over a year or so...
OP - sounds like a great opportunity! All the positives - better benefits, work/life balance (which will be huge), and NO weekly travel...plus it’s involves a raise and a huge bump in title (to me that’s worth more than the pay bump). Don’t let greed get to you, if you went back at this point would you be ok with them pulling the offer over what might amount to 5-8k? You’ll have more time on your hands now and won’t be chained to your computer which is worth more than any amount of $ - congrats!
Just take the offer, should have asked for more up front. If you start trying to counter now, you make it seem as if money is the only thing that you care about. Unless this is a sales type of role where you’re expected to “always be closing” then just take your new role and title. This is coming from a minority female. Next time ask for more to open the door for negotiations.
Maybe ask if there is a joining bonus?
OP - are you going for Manager -> Director? What industry? What's your total YOE? MBA or not.
Thanks for your opinions! I asked for a sign on and they agreed. I’m so freaking excited - I can’t believe I can make predictable plans with my hubs and kids 🥂
Benefits are better and bonus is comparable - I think I should jump although industry raises are not as high as consulting and I’m a minority female- I hear you never take your initial offer and always counter. Your thoughts? I honestly want to know what a male would do so pls feel free to respond with gender
SC1, hell is holding a spot for you, just sayin’
Male - “I’m a little gun shy because I was expecting in the range of $X as per industry/level/position benchmarks I collected through an informal survey of my network, is there anything you can do to give me the final nudge to pull that trigger and accept?”
Do you have levaerge?
Use as a lesson learned and take the offer
M here - for me it would depend on if i had already discussed salary with them. If we havent - i would definitely ask for more right now. You have to remember - this company is invested in you now. But they have a fiduciary responsibility. If they can get you for cheaper, they will. Just dont be too effing greedy - ya know? DM me if you have any questions
Thank you PM1 and M1
Agree that if they gave you what you asked for salary wise you shouldn’t ask for more, but asking for a sign on bonus could be doable. Take the offer if you like the job and company
