Hi Fishes, Sometime back I was interviewed for Technical Support Job role in my domain. T1 went well. T2, in my understanding was better only (not great like T1 but not blunder. I felt it was nice and i replied majority of questions). They released the feedback after 10 days with "Not Positive". I am not totally sure with feedback as I replied majority of questions correct. I am being bit curious with "Microsoft" tag. What can be the reason?
Discussion appreciated.

I literally can’t stand working with recruiters. I’ve had to apply directly to firms that none of the recruiters I’ve spoken with have even mentioned. They’re just an unnecessary middleman imo
Firms generally prefer internal referrals because there’s a much higher chance that the candidate is good (due to personal relationships, the referrer’s reputation, etc.). They know that the vast majority of recruiters get their candidates by blasting hundreds of emails and cold calling every week. I don’t know about saving on fees because some firm still pay referral bonuses (mine is paying $50k).

I’ve never heard the “recruiter didn’t want to work with you” conspiracy theory.
Great - something else for the Johns of the world to be anxious about!
Lol yeah a recruiter would say that
Or better yet, do you have a contact at that firm you know that can refer you?
Otherwise, apply directly to the firm. Weird they’re looking for a cover letter for a lateral hire but just keep it to max half page and chat briefly about your experience and why you might be interested in that firm specifically and making a move. Keep everything positive and note things specific about the firm you’re applying to.
Lol you are much better off applying directly. My Amlaw 50 firm won’t even look at recruiter submissions the first couple months a position is posted.
Yeah it’s super hard finding qualified litigators

When a firm is actually hiring, they will take and look at non recruiter apps (after all why pay $50K). Also some firms explicitly do not pay recruiting fees for some roles. Also, I think there was a Cooley add recently that said applicants with less than a year or coming from a clerkship should not apply via a recruiter and should use the Cooley portal instead.
Got it thank you! Does anyone have a sample cover letter I could use to apply for biglaw firms? I’m not sure what I should be saying in there and I guess that’s the work recruiters usually do.

that’s weird. Maybe you’ll want to use a recruiter then for this position if the firm is that old school requiring cover letters

I’m having the same line of thought and am reviving my law school connections for internal referrals
This is interesting to me as not my experience at all. When I made the transition to BL I had 1 interview for a direct apply and then I got the 4 firm interviews after getting a recruiter. Network connections didn’t pan out to interviews. I think the latter really depends on the connection and where the position you’re applying for is officed at as the hiring can be very office specific.
