Bluecross BlueShield of Minnesota has a zero-tolerance policy for certain issues, including work performance problems, and will terminate employment immediately and without warning.
As long as the policy is clear I'm OK with that.
A PIP is basically a firing at my job. It's sort of like a soft firing, and I think it's a way to give people the option to leave before getting canned. If I were ever put on a PIP, I would just leave.
I was glad for the option to change roles and avoid the PIP. That was almost 15 years ago and I'm still with the company.
We technically have pips. However, these are designed to fire people. Putting us on a PIP allows the company to save money on severance and what not.
I've heard PIP called "Paid Interview Period" for that reason.
