Do you keep it professional and polite in resignation emails even if you are upset with the position; management and toxic environment?

Yes, I try to keep it professional, you never know when you will need a reference. Also my dad always told you never who might be your boss someday. You could end up at company down the road under someone who you offered in a rude resignation letter. There really is no up side to being unprofessional in a registration letter. Just leave honest feedback on the company’s Glassdoor page, it is anonymous and you can detail the issues you have with the company.

My motto is to never burn a professional bridge. It serves no purpose whatsoever and can come back and bite you in the butt years down the line. I just convey my departure, say it's time to move on and then do so. Once it's in writing, it's there, forever. And forever is a long time for something that makes you look a certain way.

Yes. Don’t burn the bridge bc you never know who can help you in the future. Resignation letters can be pretty basic:
Dear Manager,
I am writing to inform you that I have accepted an external offer and am tendering my resignation. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work at X company and under your guidance. I’ve learned valuable lessons and skills over the last few years and know I will take these lessons with me the rest of my career. My proposed last day is X but I am open to discussing something that is mutually agreeable.

I wish you and the company the best,
Jane Doe

Are the lessons/skills around how to operate in a toxic environment? Yes. Does your manager need to know? No.

If you have a good relationship with your boss, maybe you can say something. When I left my first job, I was very transparent with my manager that it was over pay and had nothing to do with him or the job. My peers all got raises / promotions after three people in a month left over pay. I still have a good relationship with that group and have referred multiple people to work there. But that might be rare - my boss was a great guy and I’m actually friends with my backfill now.

I do. I don't want to burn the bridge because I never know when I may need something from them again. It's just not worth the trouble, you know?

Always remain professional.

Yes. I prefer keeping it simple too. Why spend more energy.

Love this mentality

Absolutely. You never know when your path will cross in the future. It’s a small world after all, you don’t want to burn your bridges

I will say this I love working with the students . I love getting to know them . I smile to myself when I go to work . I still feel this way after last week being asked my three different people about doing something where I told them that I was not going to do. following day I was then ambushed by admin (where I have never felt more like nothing. Following this encounter with people in charge I had an anxiety attack. This was terrible and I have no trust . TAs are mistreated. Similar story?

I’ve noticed that many LGBTQ+ people make a point of “coming out” to co-workers or clients when initially introducing themselves. I’ve seen many partnered people do this by working in a casual mention of their significant other, which I’ve always thought was so clever and works even in a largely virtual work environment. As a single person though, it’s something I’ve struggled to do. What are other ways that you “come out” to co-workers and/or clients from initial introductions (or later on)?

I am finishing up at an agency end of June and another agency reached out to book me for a 3 month job that would need to start fairly soon. The job I’m on now has been shot and edited and is going into testing and then we will do the color and mix. What is the proper freelance etiquette in the situation? Can I go to the agency I’m at now and tell them someone wants to book me through the end of August or do I just have to say no to the new agency?

I’m taking the GMAT in September and would like to include my score on my applications to other firms. Based on what I’m getting in practice, it would significantly improve my resume. However, I heard many firms, particularly MBB, have hiring windows in August, so applying later would hurt my chances. Is this true, and if so, when should I apply? Is it possible to apply earlier and then fill in the recruiter on my GMAT score while I’m in the process?
