I have received offer from Shell and SAP labs is in final stage salary discussion. Shell is offering 6 lacs more than @SAP labs. I have tried to negotiate a lot from SAP but they are not ready. They are putting conditions like give your full commitment to join then only we'll release offer letter. I am currently looking for work life balance with growth. Should I join @SAP considering its a Product based and good WLB and learning? Teck Stack - Java/Micro-services/cloud YOE - 11yrs

I'm willing to if someone else initiates the conversation. I'm hesitant to bring it up myself, though, because I know not everyone likes doing so and I don't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable. I guess I should make more of an effort since I think salary transparency is a good thing, it's just difficult thinking of a way to start those conversations since I'm not particularly close with any of my coworkers.
Yeah for sure. I think salary transparency is super important but I know it can be a weird conversation to have. I usually don't bring it up but am also open if others do!
Close friends yes I do (we knew each other prior to our workplace).
Not talking about compensation and being in the dark only helps the employer and not the employee typically.
My real close friends/coworkers, we do. That's only because of the level of trust we have with each other. I don't speak about it with other coworkers though that aren't on the same level though.
Do you and your close friends/coworkers make around the same amounts?
Yeah, I have no problem talking about salary with anyone. Transparency only benefits employees, why do you think employers go so hard on discouraging people from having those conversations?
I completely agree!
I'm open to it because we are on the same team. Keeping it secret feels too shady. Companies shouldn't try to discourage it, and when they do, I just want to come out in the open more.
The term lawyers typically use for this is “pretext”.
I know this because I successfully sued BNYM.
Nope! I made that mistake once. Found out my coworker was making almost double when I was making at the time. I felt so much bitterness because we do the same job and then many way as I worked more than them but because they technically had seniority, they made so much more money.
It is a problem! I agree. Looking back, I probably should have gone to my boss and advocated for myself better. Lesson learned.

As a teacher, I know we're all on the same pay scale and it's public record, so I don't mind telling anyone what I make.
That's fair. I do find it weird when public employees are secretive about their pay!
