I've just tried to wire myself not to even think about it. I mean, I'll think about to whatever extent, I can't purge it completely. And I'll go as far as jotting something down if it occurs to me and I want to make sure to remember it. But I haven't done any actual work on the weekend in ages. It's just a matter of setting boundaries and then the hard part, enforcing them.
Love the setting boundaries part
I’ve given work enough of myself and my thinking while at work, I don’t want to give it any more time when I’m not there. That doesn’t mean I don’t find myself still thinking about it once in a while, but I really do push myself to think that every time. Helps to rewire my thoughts a bit.
Love that mentality
Get a hobby. I do other activities that require my mental abilities and it allows me to disconnect from the work mentality over the weekend.
I used to be that way but now I realize no one is paying for weekend work and doing it doesn’t help too much for the week that’s coming ahead so from that I have learned to mentally drop it.
If I have something important coming up, it’ll cross my mind. Otherwise, I don’t like my mind wander to work.
At worst, you can also dream about work. It's terrible! 😅 What I do is literally anything to preoccupy my mind, may it be cooking, watching a movie, or running.
I will write down whatever is bugging me. It tends to be a tasks list of things I thought about and might forget before Monday morning comes. The key is, if I write it down, I can't do anything about it until Monday anyway and tend to enjoy the remainder of my time off. That list gets packed with my lunch Monday morning. Some weekends there isn't a list at all, but as project deadlines approach, there tends to be a few things that nag me.
