Do you think engineers spend enough time thinking about the user experience of internal tools?
I’ve seen teams tolerate painful internal systems that they’d never ship to customers.

I’ve made a lot of internal tools over the years and I try to “eat my own dog food” by using my tools for my own work. I seek feedback of those who use the tool and attempt to ensure the tools themselves do not create a headwind. Tools that make work harder rather than easier will never be upvoted.

Although we may not put the same kind of polish on internal tools that we do for product that faces external customers there must still be a reasonable expectation of professionalism and solid design and documentation practices embedded in any internal tool, IMHO.

It's really hard to get that focus setting right. Too much focus and you're burning gas in neutral. Too little and you're revving with the handbrake on.

You basically need to keep adjusting that based on scale, ease of access, and key man risk on key operations. Eventually you NEED to focus on HOW things are done to improve on execution.

Focusing on it too much too early will likely end up leaving you too slow to get your business off the ground.

If you don't focus on it enough... your operations and execution will simply plateau.

So true

Just graduated with Aerospace Engineering degree. I am interviewing for multiple positions at once with different companies. One gave me an offer and they want me to get back to them within 2 days. I still have other interviews scheduled and some for higher paying jobs (around 90k) What should I do?
I do like the company that gave me an offer but their base pay was 80k and they went up to 85k. Is asking for them to match the 90k too much? The position is associate systems engineer.

General corporate in NY looking to lateral into tech transactions at one of the EC/VC firms. I’ve heard that I may get a class cut if I make the move but I’m ok with that. My worry is that EC/VC firms are crazy busy work differently from general corp, I also won’t have control over my hours, and potentially worse based on how billing differs (block billing on a few clients vs having to work with 15 or more startups). Is the same true for tech trans or IP group?

Hi All! Looking for some advice. I am a manager a country club but I do everything. I’m in charge of outside events and member events, in charge of the front of house staff, scheduling, ordering and membership sales for the club. I feel I am very underpaid at $45k. I do get commission but it’s very low ($10k give or take for the year). I work 6/7 days a week sometimes 10+ hrs/day. I’ve been researching salaries to be able to negotiate higher pay. I want to ask for $60k-is this reasonable?

911 Carrera S vs GTS

I really want to do a low key spec on my next car but it’s almost impossible to spec the GTS without black wheels/accents turning it into a more aggressive looking car.

Thoughts on if the GTS in a 7 speed is more engaging than the S enough to justify the compromise in wheel selection?
