There is a lot of compliance and governance reasons not to use unsanctioned apps. For example if there is any intellectual property or regulatory data. They may not be able discover the data in an investigation.
Well, other than company policy, one potential problem is the lack of control the company would have over off boarding access when an employee leaves. Most enterprise environments utilize single sign-on so that switching off access in one place removes access everywhere. Imagine a disgruntled employee having access to communications after they’ve left the company.
An issues arises when your team becomes too accustomed on Slack and stops regularly checking Teams. Then, coworkers get frustrated when it is difficult to get ahold of members of your team because they are not regularly checking Teams.
Why use Slack? Is it because your team thinks they're too cool for Teams? Like others mentioned, there are huge security issues using Slack. Don't do it.
I’ve seen it yes. Slack has modified its messaging to be “complimentary to teams. I’ll caveat that while I’m not a Teams seller, being microsoft is some bias. My former company (ibm) was all slack.
That being said, I’d encourage you to look at what features your team needs, and look if Teams can accommodate. My guess is this might be as simple as your teams current comfort with the slack UI.
The tradeoff as many have said is slack security....it is not enterprise grade. Double licensing costs is a (perhaps minor) concern as well
