Does a U.S. lawyer with fairly good security/privacy experience have any shot at finding a job in the EU? Other than maybe branches of American firms, anyone know a path to make that happen?

I am about to transition from being a junior partner at a large law firm (my practice has focused on private equity M&A) to Deputy General Counsel at a large-ish Pubco. I am already giving myself a crash course in public securities and corporate governance from my firm’s training materials and my cap markets partners, but I also wanted to poll the audience for other suggestions on how to become as prepared as possible for my new role please. Anyone else having trouble finding free fraud based CPE trainings? My job does not pay for these things so I wasnt sure if anyone else had a solution or source. I feel like every company lies about “working your way up.” You’re never allowed to blatantly say that you don’t like your position and you’d like to transition to HR or Finance. It’s almost as if once you get in claims, you’re stuck.

Having major imposter syndrome still. I feel like the minute I finally have a grasp, something changes. The law and nuances just seem overwhelming. Maybe it’s just a lack of guidance/uniformity in the US. I’m not sure if I feel this way because it is simply the nature of the work or because I’m just not capable.

What industry in Atlanta offers the best prospects (most demand) for privacy law/compliance exits?

Can we talk about privacy vendors? We are looking for a platform to handle data inventory and/or data discovery, as well as automating the privacy impact assessment process. We already have vendors for DSARs and cookies. Do most people consolidate all these functions to one platform or use multiple? Anyone willing to share vendors they have had good or bad experiences with?

Low billable, low pressure work in privacy law? Slowly realizing that as my boys get older, the money isn’t worth what I’m missing out on. Currently a tech litigation associate with lots of hearing, depo and trial experience (I’ve appeared on my own at hearings/depos) at a well respected firm. I have limited privacy experience despite being hired for that reason… Have my CIPM and CIPP/US /E and /C. Remote preferred; hubs is pilot with cool intl transfer opportunities. Money isn’t issue.

In terms of taking the next step to elevate your career- what items are you heavily focusing on? I have speciality in data governance as well as product counseling, but curious to know what others find most helpful in their practice areas.
