Does anyone else agree that the personality/culture/whatever testing that banks and some other large orgs make people do when they apply for a job is low-key disrespectful to our time? So when it’s during phase 2-3 of the interview process that’s fair enough, but many of them now automatically have you do it when you initially submit your resume. These things take usually 20-40 minutes to complete, and you’re asking people to spend that time not even knowing if they will get a preliminary chat?

Agreed it is a waste of time, but it is an imperfect method of helping a company weed through hundreds of resumes for the “right” candidate. The whole recruitment process is broken, but Australia’s lacks respect for the candidate — I’m amazed at how companies I’ve interviewed with just ghost me rather than sending a rejection email in a timely manner.

I know right! I am just returning after 7 years overseas and can’t believe the attitude of the hiring process overall, it’s pretty wild.

Programs can soft resumes for key terms to reduce the workload on recruiters/HR, but I think asking someone to spend that kind of time on an assessment without even an initial interview to ensure their time isn’t being wasted is disrespectful.

Don’t even get me started on cover letters…

I think if you want applicants to invest time beyond submitting their resume, there should be some reciprocal time investment. It’s just a “respect for your time” thing. Does anyone agree or AITA?

100% recent interview process turned into 5 stages due to this, very onerous

Yes, recently had a company in nearly final round ask me to do a cognitive test. I needed a result of 97th percentile plus to proceed to final interview with exec to green light me for the role.

I didnt to do the test, as had already done multiple interviews and felt my time was being wasted and that they had shown me their culture before even heirering me.

If I have to do more than three interviews I'm done

I left my job about a year ago to relocate, make sure it was the right decision and start a side business in the mean time. Now I’m actively looking for a new sales position, have tons of experience, but am struggling to even get a response from job apps. I am wondering if this is because of my employment gap? I don’t have my side business listed on my resume because I don’t feel like I have enough positive “stats” to report yet given it’s new. Any advice or recommendations?

Hi Fishes,
I recently got shortlisted for a Product Manager position at Tracxn. There’s also an IPO coming up which is the reason I had applied.
But I have read some horrifying reviews about the company on Glassdoor, indeed and other forums.

I’m wondering whether it’s worth going through the interview process and I’d also like to hear opinions from anyone who has worked with the company or is aware of the company culture.

Thanks.

Did a first interview with hr rep, went very well. she set up the hiring manager meeting for a few days later. Met with the manager. Another great conversation, went over time and was told I’d hear back about panel set up. Following day I get a request from hr rep to “continue the conversation” with manager. This is set up Tuesday.
Why do you think the manager wants to meet again? Good? Bad? I felt great about the interview when we ended.

Living in Van. Previously lived in Toronto. Obviously rent prices are high as is cost of living. Generally go out and spend more often living in a city. Boyfriend and I on good salary but not saving much due to the above. Before we move home to our own country, we’d love to spend a year close to Vancouver where rent is cheaper, temptation is less, to save. A commute to Vancouver 1-2 times a month needs to be possible (his job). That can be a flight if it’s not crazy. Thoughts? Recommendations?
