Why not do a postdoc and have higher salary when making jump to pharma? Fresh grads make nothing starting out.
Chemical biology background and PhD from a prestigious US graduate school and mentor is well known in the field. got lucky because that pharma was just expanding that division.

Hey there.
1) You might not get a good title/pay with PhD+0 years of exp, and might run into problems landing a job in 2023.
2) 2022 was a crazy year, so try to set your expectations right. For example, we were hiring a sr scientist back in 2022 and had only 5 candidates in almost 2 months. Same position/JD this year, >150 candidates in 2 days.
3) I would focus on drug discovery not PM as those are two different functions.
4) salaries r very different coast to coast, but happy to share what it looks like here in northeast.
Fresh PhD - you will likely get a scientist/sr scientist job, pay is 100-120k with total comp ~ 130-150k
5) doing post doc will make you a better candidate, but remember, don’t spend too long in academia.
6) start your career in a bigger/more established company especially u r fresh and still learning. If you want to get exposure to the entire drug discovery process, don’t go to a start up.
Echo #3: They are very different functions plus they require very different skill sets. Industrial knowledge and experience in drug discovery is the foundation of project management. Trust me, you will need some time to develop certain soft skills that grad school doesn’t teach.
