First time Dad and my 15 month old keeps running up the stairs at my in-laws place and they keep encouraging it. Stairs are almost 10 inches high with nothing underneath and I’m worried that he might slip and fall in between the stairs. My FIL is a bit of a know-it-all and keeps insisting it’s safe and I don’t agree. What do I do? Don’t want to fight the entire house full of people about this and kid enjoys it too much and cries a lot if I/we prevent him from climbing
I feel like the parent always has the override and authority when it comes to the child’s safety.
I understand there could be cultural and personality barriers, but if you truly believe there is a risk then you have to talk to your FIL maybe separately and express how serious you are. If you genuinely tell him about your concern, hopefully your FIL will understand and back off.
Next best thing is practising with the kiddo so they learn how to go down stairs or fall gravefully.
