Does anyone have automatic time off for the holidays where the organization itself is closed? I have seen some places do this but I feel like it’s more uncommon in our industry.

Yes, my company is closed from Christmas Day to New Year’s Day every year, and those are paid holidays for all employees.

like

I wish that were the case, but sadly no. I mean we are closed for the holidays themselves but open all the other days.

like

Yeah, we have a calendar of holidays that we automatically get off because of companywide closures. I think it's nine or 10 holidays per year.

My site is off usually from Christmas eve (half day) to New Year’s Day. Sometimes that shifts a bit to include a day. It takes from typical holidays throughout the year and puts them during this time.

We aren't closed, but some positions get Christmas Eve through New Year's Day as part of our paid holidays.

Amgen has two shutdowns company wide, 1 for a week during 4th of July. And another that starts from Christmas Eve until the Friday after new years day. If you are a full time employee it's paid time off, independent of your other PTO.

like

We are closed on Xmas and New years only, but those are paid. Probably country's employment laws play a big part as well.

Yes. I work for a government contractor. We're closed from Dec 24 - Jan 1 every year.

I know a lot of organizations do close for the holidays. Usually every organization I need to work with in order to do my job. But my company stays open.

My job closes down every Christmas and New Years. This year we are off December 24-January 4th. I’m super excited!!!

In the pharma industry we have site shutdowns 2x a year for regulatory reasons. My company usually aligns these with the winter holidays and 4th of July. The shutdown is for four days. My company has us take mandatory PTO for 2 and gives us 2 paid for free. It is a weird system and I'm not sure how common it is.

I work in a firm that is known for litigation defense. I’ve been developing my own plaintiffs practice as well. I am able to pay the bills with my hourly defense work, which gives me time to focus on a handful of high value PI case a year on contingency. I was recently negotiating a case and was told part of the reason the claims rep/OC was jerking me around was because they didn’t see me as a plaintiffs attorney. Is there any way to change this perception or does it just come over time?

I think it’s over with my SO of 3 years. He tells me he loves me and wants to work things through but has lied to me several times in the past - some which were the same mistake three times. He knows he needs professional help (he’s also on antidepressants and has PTSD) but I don’t know how I can trust him again. Feeling completely broken - cannot believe the situation we’re in. I’m so sad my heart is breaking and I don’t know what to do

Hey all, having issues with interviewing this year. I’ve been passed over every opportunity I really want and I’m unsure how to regroup and move forward. I’m really trying to break into method development roles and I haven’t had the opportunity to do so with my analytical experience. A lot of my HPLC and LCMS experience is with already established methods. Any tips?

Can anyone give me their honest opinion on working at Eli Lilly, the Indy site? I have a few coworkers that have worked there in the past but no one recently. I’m currently being recruited pretty seriously for a in-vivo technician position in the auto-immune team, but I already have a job lined up at Envigo as a small animal sx tech. Salaries would be comparable (Lilly would most likely be a little more with bonuses), but if the culture sucks, I’d hate to burn a bridge with Envigo.
