Salary expectations: 15$/h
Hi all, I just got a job offer at PwC for a senior consultant position. The salary is 30% above my total comp right now, but I’m just worried about the amount of work I will have to put in compared to my amazing work life balance now. Does anyone have any experience moving from industry to consulting? I need some advice on what to do. I’m still early in my career (1.4yoe) so I feel like I shouldn’t care too much about wlb, but at the same time, I don’t want my mental health to suffer either.

Every one of the MBB firms will hire attorneys as MBA equivalents
Mbb is less insistent on top schools these days. Still heavy on “pedigree” but there’s more ways now that you can demonstrate your impressiveness than the right schools. I’d say shoot your shot if that’s what you want.
You can absolutely transition. Just depends at what level and salary you expect to start at. You could probably come into the Deloitte M&A practice as a manager making $200k base + bonus. I’m just not sure how competitive that is with Big Law. You also won’t get to use your law degree much unless you get on some niche projects.
For me it was easy since I also got my MBA & had a lot of friends in consulting already. First round questions over-indexed on “why do you want to leave law? Why consulting?” but were easy to overcome.
I came from midsize law firm with a quick stop in state government and am now public sector consulting. FWIW, I’ve found my background allows me to lead more effectively because I’m a little more attuned to risk, and ask different questions than those who spent their entire life in consulting. High-mid tier law school, top 10 grad school, public university for undergrad.
I transitioned from a boutique law firm to consulting. It’s fairly common in my practice group, but we all practiced in the same area of law that we’re now consulting in. (Very niche.) The issue spotting and analysis skillsets I developed in my legal practice have been hugely helpful in my consulting work. I agree with earlier posts though, the pay is decent, but significantly lower than what you could earn in big law.
I thought biglaw only hired straight out of law school or (rarely) at the partner level, to ensure uniform habits across the firm
