They don’t

👆 these replies. Hubs and I live in NorCal and the toys in our neighborhood are crazy 😜 We have a paid for $600K house, paid for cars, max our our 401ks and our spend categories are food $1500 and daycare $1600.

We see so many pools, brand new trucks, boats, NEVs, Tesla’s, solar panels, etc. Leases using house equity as cash during this low interest rate environment is the conclusion we’ve come to. These folks definitely aren’t actually owning or affording these things.

Most people who live like that save no money. If you saved nothing for retirement you would be able to live like a king too

like

This.

Also people choose different things to spend their money on. It's possible to live flamboyant in one aspect and frugal in another. For example I spend a lot of money on restaurants and travel. I don't spend a lot of money on clothes, clubs, bars. I am for sure saving for retirement very aggressively still.

Some people flip that.

Smells like new money

A few options: daddy’s credit card, massive amounts of debt, or no retirement savings. Or they talk a good game and ended up with $500tc somewhere

Sources of wealth you don’t see, like buying ETH at $10

like

I spent my ETH on cryptokitties in 2017 🤦🏻‍♀️

I don’t spend much money but I sashay with great flamboyance.

Most live beyond their means via debt. It’s better to be wealthy than to look wealthy.

like

And, shocker - some people simply do well enough to afford it

like

I think most people, regardless of income, spend beyond their means. If you make more, that means there are just more expensive items for you to spend your money on.

They probably make more money too.

See also Expense report fraud.

They invest in flamingos.

Credit

If not blowing it with credit cards then have rich families. A lot of people in big cities have a lot of family money.

Did you do the NIPT? I just had my first prenatal appt and they scheduled me for the NIPT at 10 weeks. I’m a little nervous and anxious. Did anyone get it and got a false positive? Do you not recommend it? I wish I could ask family but we’re not telling anyone until the 12 weeks mark.

Husband and I have been TTC for almost a year. His semen analysis came back all normal with the exception of morphology at 1% (Kruger Strict criteria). Anyone have insights into morphology and it’s impacts on fertility? From what I’ve read and after talking to our fertility specialist morphology seems subjective.

Any parents who are still on the safe side with Covid? We have a 1 year old and being safe and staying mostly home is really getting to me. Any recommendations for a female psychologist in the Alexandria,VA area?

I didn't apply for a job that would have set me up for the future in the government. I wouldn't have to worry about money or future jobs. My boss had just given me a small pay rise and talked up the future and so I felt good. I now severely regret not applying for the job and cannot stop thinking about it to the point of insomnia and depression. I even contacted the employer but too late. It's a small town and rarely anything comes up. I hate myself and feel like I failed my family. :(

How do people increase their credit score? Mine’s only around 790/770 for transunion/equifax respectively and its been like that for a while now. I have 100% payment rate, only 3% credit utilization, and 0 hard inquiries for the past 6 months or so. So far I only have credit cards, no loans yet. Thanks in advanced!

There’s no reason you have to put up with a job you hate. I spent many years working in a toxic environment with a boss who gossiped and lead through fear. He wasn’t really much of a leader but basically a foreman. And he could make my existence miserable. I admit that it wasn’t easy to find another job but the bottom line is: trust your guts. If you feel something is wrong it’s because it probably is. Don’t second guess yourself. Look for options and and fight for your mental health.
