Does cold calling still work?

My creative partner (AD/CW team) and I are juniors and don’t have a lot of industry connections just yet. We are looking for a full-time gig and are planning on calling NY agencies and asking them for interest interviews (or to just to be connected with their recruiters). Do you think this is a good way to go about it?

Working Moms/Dads: Do in-house positions exist with flex time hours? I need to be able to leave work at 4pm to pick up my son from daycare, but i can get back online at home to resume any unfinished work at 8pm. Is this realistic to convey to any companies in an interview? Pandemic aside, is face time 9-7pm really important? It’s so nice that every agency laying off people, have those left standing (and other agencies) trying to hustle jobs for their unemployed friends, but there are also a ton of people who were unemployed prior to Covid...so no severance, job hunting lot longer, and not earning income for longer time...hurting even MORE due to quarantine.
