P1, if anything, Asian men are having the opposite experience. We are not deemed a minority group in the eyes of recruiters. I.e. Start program, everyone not white but Asian men are allowed to apply. On top of that, in ivy leagues, many candidates with amazing resumes get rejected, in terms of their academics and extra curricular/leadership representation in school. But you'll prob reject that too because you want to be the victim.
OP, I'm also international, so I actually empathize with you. Difference is I'm fortunate to have lived in several different countries and went to international schools, so I've befriended people from all over the world. So it's been a lot easier for me to adapt to social contexts unlike those who only grew up in a non westernized country all their lives before moving to America.
White straight male? Feel the same sometimes
Are u that black one who made it to the final round with me and was hired?
Heard quotas help a lot these days, u r still complaining
Apparently it's 18% Asian at pwc, but I think there's prob only 1% Asians in MC...
I'm like 1/3 asians in my competency in the NYM office out of 90
Op, I'm sorry this is your experience. Join APIN and other diversity groups in your office and find more like minded people. I'm happy to talk if you want, just post a burner. This cliqueness is atypical for millennials, usually something seen with middle aged Indian/Asian men. It might just be your office but I'm more than happy to try to help you navigate. Let me know!
Again that's very very atypical. I'm a millennial too, Indian and a girl. I've had some moronic questions come my way and by and large all my friends are from across the country and of varied ethnicities. I'm only trying to help- Are you active in those groups? Have you tried to meet people who aren't interns?
Quite the opposite. There is very less diversity at K
The hell p1, just go find a keg and sleep under the tap.
What quotas pwc 1? Please explain
He's saying you're basically getting affirmative action. He's just being one of those white assholes who rejected the notion of white privilege. Gotta say you're kinda slow on the uptake OP.
Are you white or Asian OP?
Waking up under the tap, I don't know @k1 case but one can't reject that these days is a very favorable environment for minorities
He sounds international... prob Asian. Hard for most Asian internationals without western exposure in their younger years to assimilate to American culture. A lot of socialization involves American sports, tv, films and politics.
Pwc 2 So you expect me to know the nitty gritty of American social fabric? All I will say is there were groups of tables for W,B and H and I'm neither of them.
No OP, I don't, it's just the reality of it. Not your fault.
In Rome do as the Romans do
Please don't say western exposure. Use the right term American. There's so much in common between Europe, Britain and Asia than America.
Though, I went to a school that did not have any affirmative action, and it is basically 70% Asian (including Asian Americans), for better or worse. I probably saw like 10 black people in the building my entire 4 years. There are pros and cons to affirmative action, as much as it has disadvantages my race to some extent. So I can't fault it completely. Kinda annoying for prof to get us confused with one another/can't remember our names because we look the same to them -_-
Pwc 1. But in general and on a lighter note, Americans do like Americans wherever they go
