everyone,

I have recently accepted an offer at Capco but I learnt that it has been fully acquired by Wipro.

Can anyone advise what is the work culture and management like at Wipro (for the North American operations)?

The management team at Capco seemed progressive but mergers/acquisitions are an absolute shit show and I am trying to prepare myself for worst case scenario

Side note, but I love how hard Capco is trying to come off as not being a subsidiary of Wipro in its wikipedia article. Literally just one sentence in the middle of the page lol.

One common theme regarding the firm that I learned from this app is that people have been leaving the firm in droves, especially after being acquired.

Can only speak to Wipro, not Capco.

Team is primarily offshore, even the North America team. This means lots of early morning / late night calls. Also means lots of QA challenges with deliverables that you’re expected to fix (eg grammar errors, poor storyboarding of ppt decks). After awhile, you just accept the lower quality outputs as everyone around you creates mediocre outputs and you don’t have the support or the talent on your team to create better products without doing everything yourself.

Culture is very much driven by the home country of India. Lots of open criticism in public settings. Deliverable timelines and sales numbers are created almost from thin air, and then the team is berated if they can’t meet it. Sat in on a call with SVP that berated multiple general managers for having annual sales target being set lower than what he expected.

I made an assumption that Wipro would be like joining a lower tier B4 consulting. I was wrong, and I left within a year.

That sounds just awful but thank you for sharing the insight

I originally joined because they offered about 25% more compensation. I ultimately left and went back to B4 consulting and gave up the 25% increase just to get away from Wipro….and I was thrilled to leave money on the table for peace of mind. This is the happiest I’ve been in the past year being away from Wipro

If the culture of the company you’re at is awful, then it doesn’t hurt to give Capco a try. Again, my experience is only from Wipro. You could always jump, test the water out, the jump again if necessary.

Good luck at Capco! I wasn’t trying to scare you, just trying to share my individual experience. Yours may be different. :)

How is the tech space at Citibank bad? I’m joining it soon lol.

Similar to what SM shared above but feel free to DM me if you have specific questions.

We have pretty high turnover over here as well.

For some reason, there is a work culture adoption out of their India office (with offshore completed out of Pune office heavily).

Similar expectation to work around the clock, Canadian onboarding during covid for tech employees have been horrendous so far. Upto 2 months, people did not have access to multiple systems to get trained and work appropriately.

Bonuses and performance metrics are all subjective. Even though HR will tell you that there are clear guidelines, tech managers just chose not to follow through.

They expect you to work 16 hour days and most of the managers are pretty bad. There is no focus on people management or employee retention. People are seen as disposable. (Going back to adoption of culture from India).

How do you assess your client time as billable or non-billable? We are currently reviewing our time card process and want to better establish groundwork for differentiating between the two. Further to that, do you have your time members log their time and categorize it as Billable/Non-Billable upon submission? or does the Account Manager review submitted time cards and assign each based on the work being logged?
