Experience with CPA tutors? Using Becker, cant pass. $500 for 16 hours of tutoring. Worth it? Or should I just figure out a different way to study with becker.

I thought about tutoring when I was frustrated I couldn't pass, then I realized I needed to change my study strategy because it clearly wasnt working. I noticed when taking the exam I would remember studying a concept but couldnt remember what I actually studied so it was clearly an issue with my ability to retain information.

Old method:
-marathon study sessions: 3 hrs on work days, 5 on weekends.

New method:
-smaller study sessions. 1 hr before work, 1.5-2 after work. Weekends 2-3 in morning, do something fun/run errands and 2-3 in the afternoon/evening.
-flash cards and my app with MCQs if I had a few minutes of downtime.

If youre struggling to retain information smaller sessions are better than marathon sessions.

I am not sure specifically what you are doing but just think about what changes you could make to your current, unsuccessful method.

I believe Becker mentions this. You have to rethink and change the way you study. In school you have multiple quizzes, assignments and exams that help you balance your grade. With the CPA you only have one shot. Those "C" attempts throughout and then trying to go big on the big points assignment doesn't do it out of school.
The CPA exams aren't easy, but they're not impossible. It just takes dedication and to stay motivated. Home stretch.

Try ninja notes. This isn’t an add, I seriously didn’t start passing until I used them. I think because it cuts out a lot of junk and noise that other study materials provide. I used this with Wiley on the side, and passed all four parts with at least 80

like

Also gonna chime in and preach Ninja! Really like their MCQ bank and the fact that I could just use it for the couple months I needed it to supplement Becker for FAR

like

I passed reg once I used ninja. It’s really worth it for the test bank. You start to memorize Becker’s questions at some point

like

NINJA CPA. The best supplement

How are you studying? Hammering MCQs is the only way tbh

like

I took the exam a while back at this point but I also struggled with passing. I didn’t start passing until I just did the MCQ in Becker over and over. I thought it was dumb but honestly the questions are the same/same concept as the exams.

like

I’m in the same situation. I heard good things about Rodger. I feel like I’m dumb, I had 4.0 when I graduated the only one in my class and people who were complete morons in my class passed somehow. Unfortunately, I had covid early on and have the brain fog. I used to have a photographic memory now I struggle with simple words. They only thing they will do is give me more time on the exam. I feel like they need to do more because there is no way I can pass my brain just doesn’t work like it used to.

like

I’ve always said, Becker is great if you are pushing for a 95+, but way too much for someone shooting to just pass. The trick is to use your time on what is most valuable. For me that meant throwing the flash cards in the trash.

like

If you want to pass the exam you need to live and breathe the CPA. Download the Becker app on your phone. Every time you are in line at a store, sitting passenger side in a car, on a train, in an Uber do multiple choice. When you are driving, working out, running, on the move... listen to the lectures. Study with the intent to teach someone the concept not just to memorize. If you can teach someone how to do a bank reconciliation correctly it means you know it. The quizzes should only be done once and 80-85% move on. At the end of the week the quizzes you did not get a good score on mean you are weak in that area. Brush up on that. Lastly this is for you and you alone. If you need someone else to motivate you to study means you don’t want it bad enough. The fact that you are asking for help means you are serious and wish you best of luck. You don’t need to pay anyone $500 to teach. Great tips in this thread. You got this on your own! Good luck! 🍀

like

Thank you so much!

Buy i-75 skinny bundle...so worth it. I think it is between $400 and $500.

like

Didn’t pass until I started using Ninja! And then used MCQs from Becker/practice tests if needed before the tests

like

Im also thinking about just doing becker live online classes but dont know much about them

I’ve only had one so far but it is an actual teacher. They teach in a similar manner as the recorded lectures but may emphasize different things. I also like how they write notes live. Sometimes in the recorded lectures they magically pop up a. Lot of stuff and I can’t write it fast enough and I have to pause which gets annoying. The teacher I had last time would write any notes done and gave which gave enough time for me to write them done. They also have a q&a box that they have TA monitor and answer.

I didn’t watch the lectures so freed up time for MCQ’s & the sims.

Fishes,

Does anyone know about the IAAP diploma in IFRS?

IAAP is an awarding body in UK.

My doubt is, does the value of the certificate of IFRS change depending on the Institution?

Will a person who cleared IFRS from IAAP have same value as a person who cleared IFRS from ACCA?

Thanks in advance

I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.
