Feeling torn about my current role. I have my B.S., paralegal degree, and MBA, but I mostly do legal assistant/office management - not what I signed up for. I’m underutilized, workload keeps growing, recognition and growth opportunities feel stagnant. I was hired to do criminal but they moved me to trust and estates. I find it VERY boring and it’s hard to get through the work.

Unsure if I should stick it out for stability or seriously look. Anyone been in a similar spot? What helped you decide?

One of the best pieces of advice I got was back in undergrad. I was advised to find a mentor who was more successful than I ever imagined I could be. The rationale was that your peers in the same space don’t have the answers to your communal problem. If they did, they wouldn’t be stuck with you.

Meanwhile the mentor’s problems are so sophisticated you couldn’t even begin to understand (let alone solve them), but your problems would be child’s play in comparison; and they’d be able to identify both the actual problem and give an outline of a solution before they’ve even finished sipping their coffee.

You spent the time to get an MBA, so use it. Of course you are underutilized as a paralegal. Paralegals don’t even need a college degree. Office management could be an MBA job, if you are working with billings, marketing, or business development. But not ordering stationary and meals, that’s administrative assistant work.

smart

Interesting that you think paralegals don’t need degrees? Can you explain why? (Not coming at you, just curious as to your reasoning).

I’d argue that any paralegal trusted with billable work should have some sort of degree in legal or paralegal studies and the specialized training that comes with it.

Hi everyone!

This isn’t really an interview question but more of an on-boarding question.
Bit of background- I left my job of 3 years in Dec 2021 for a new company. Initially, I thought the company was great but my mind quickly changed. The on-boarding process was horrible, minimal training, thrown onto enterprise project 2 weeks in, over time, and there is no process for anything. I ended up hating my job.

Fast forward to Mid March, I started applying for jobs again but I omitted this role.

ACD/writer level freelancer? Have awards and new business pitch experience I’m based in Denver/Boulder.

Hi! I have worked in management roles in tech, mainly in analytics, for approximately 10 years. My TC has fluctuated (currently around 135K CAD), but it seems like it's relatively easy to breach the 100K bar, but hard to breach the 150K bar. I now work at the CBC, but I have worked in the private sector too. What is the most realistic way to move to 200K? 1) Continue moving the ladder to a VP position, 2) Switch to Pre-Sale, 3) Switch to Consulting, 4) Work from a U.S. company from Canada.
