Which job market is more competitive: SF or NYC?
so is Goodby hiring now after the Pepsi win?????
It's normal, just need to realize it is not at all related to you personally. We all have an intrinsic value. This shit is all superficial. Cuts to meet numbers, favoritism, etc. Just another part of life, part of nyc trying to beat us eat up...dont let it. Money issues can be figured out. Budget yourself now, cut things out, unnecessary things. Most importantly, maintain a normal schedule, wake up early, work out, research and network and apply, then stop at 4 or 5pm. And enjoy the day doing things you never get to do. Learn a newprogram, language, read, teach, mentor, volunteer.
I’m in the state of Depression.
Can you get some freelance? Even a few small projects will help lift you up. I was in between jobs for a few months and helped a handful of small businesses in my town with their social media. Got them set up on the various platforms, designed, wrote and shot a bunch of stuff, established a presence and a cadence and then they took over. They paid me what they could but I also got free stuff- landscaping, wine, etc. It was fucking awesome and kept me from feeling totally bummed out.
It gets worse when the checks end in 6 months
I got a PT job when I got laid off. It was a godsend. Gave me something to do, got me around people and helped with the money stress a little. I’d highly recommend it
This is all of now. Our club doesn’t enjoy hearing about new members so you definitely have our sympathies
Man, head up. We're all in together. Shit sucks so hard right now but helps to know you're not alone. It's a thing just happening everywhere right now.
They won’t even approve mine because I messed up my initial filing. It’s been 8 weeks. 🤦🏽♀️
@ECD1 - great ideas & great to here. I was recently laid off as well about a month ago and in addition to vigorously pursuing my next opportunity I’ve been so busy helping smaller businesses Ive worked with bring in clients, solve problems and such by leveraging my skills and contacts. They are paying me what they can and I feel like I’m learning more now than I did in the past several years inside the “machine”.
I feel like everyone in this business from a young age needs to realize this happens and to live below your means and save accordingly. That means if you are partnered to be able to get by with the basics on one spouses salary. If not, having a solid bucket of cash ready to weather the storm. No always possible, but a good goal.
Despite the sad state of our industry I feel this change was a long time coming and feel there is more opportunity now for all of us to diversify what we call “employment” outside an agency setting than ever before.
That seems insanely low. What state are you in?
$350 per..?
Damn, mine was $420/wk (and I believe that's the highest allowed) in NY state
You get unemployment and cobra. Not too shabby compared to being suddenly axed when a project dies and you’re freelance
