Firm extended WFH until June 1 (they keep extending). Tips for staying motivated through this period?! I’ve been dreading sitting in my home office for 8-9 hrs every day!!

I’m struggling with this too, so I’ve been sitting in different parts of the house (lol), and now I’m trying to introduce walks and coffee breaks to break up my day and give me some variety.

Yeah I think it helps productivity because I get more done when I’m actually at my screen. And then when I lose focus I can be “productive” with that time in other ways. Honestly I feel like even little things help to try and frame WFH as a treat rather than a miserable unending house arrest (lol). We have to work during weird hours in the ordinary course of business anyway, so it’s nice psychologically to mix it up by sometimes doing personal things during business hours.

Hi, I'm an employee at a hotel chain who works remotely. I've been working remotely for over a year now and I love it! The company I work for is very supportive of remote workers, which is great.

But there's one thing that's been bothering me: it's hard to get feedback on my work when I'm not in the office. It would be great if there was some kind of system that let me know how my performance was being evaluated while I'm working on projects from home.

I used to work as an agency recruiter and now work as an hr coordinator. I’ve been feeling pretty lousy about how much I make (47k) compared to my friends and with inflation, so I reached out to a company who was a client of mine while recruiting. They offered me almost 80k as an internal recruiter and I’ve accepted the offer. I’m now getting cold feet because I feel like I sort of fell into recruiting and hr and don’t think it’s really my dream or passion.

Hi all. Went through an interview with a pay range of 150-160k; I provided my range as 165-175k and was offered 135k. The manager said he can get to my range given performance.

What sort of performance metrics/guidelines should I set before I accept? Also, any suggestions on how I can improve other benefits instead (PTO, etc.)? Thank you in advance!

My current company poached me for a position that I went through a rigorous interview process After waiting an extended period of time I was provided an offer letter. Upon receiving the offer letter the salary was a lot lower than expected. It’s about 7% more than I make now. My original offer letter (when I started with the company a 1.5 years ago) advised I had a “potential” 20% bonus of my yearly salary. I was expecting at least 15% increases. How do I go about countering this offer?

How important is firm culture/WLB vs practice area? I’m a first year associate working for a firm I summered for. It’s a boutique tax firm with some civil litigation. I love the lit work (have always wanted to do litigation) but I truly hate the tax and corporate work.
The WLB is really good though. My boss is generally pretty flexible with my hours, and understanding with family responsibilities (I’m a mom). I have a 1500 billable req and I work very well with my boss.

Unemployed all year. My only two interviews so far fell through. Job openings are sparse but I can’t relocate. No UI. No car, so I have to walk. Doc review isn’t biting, gig work isn’t biting, networking isn’t pulling through, pro bono work isn’t paying off and I can’t find paying clients to take on solo. Just conducted my first deposition and did not go as I had hoped. Was the 3rd named defendant so had to limit my time (around 2 hours) and the witness was so aloof (basically answered “I don’t know” to everything). I should have been firmer in my questioning and pushed even harder. Boss, who was watching, said don’t worry about it and it went exactlty how a first depo is supposed to go. But I’m still beating myself up and feel like I let him down...

So, I had received a job offer and was waiting for conflicts to clear in my new position before submitting my notice at my current firm. Ended up deciding to quit for personal reasons before then. Mostly, I felt burnout and some family issues. One of the partners at my new firms is close to a partner at the firm Im leaving. How concerned should I be that the partner at the new firm will discuss my taking the position before I leave my current firm?

Other than higher pay (I didn’t become a lawyer to get rich 🤣) what is the benefit of working for BigLaw, or private practice in general? As a government lawyer, I make 6 figures, have excellent benefits, no billable hours requirements, more time off than I know what to do with (including mental health days), a pension, a 401(K), option to chose whether to WFH or not, no weekend work, no working before 8am or after 5pm. It seems like so many lawyers in private practice are unhappy.
