People working at tobacco companies are most likely doing what’s necessary to feed their families. I think it’s possible to disagree with an industry’s products while recognizing that most employees are just people trying to earn a living…

Tobacco companies deliberately got smokers addicted. If you know anything about addiction, you would know it's not a choice. And cigarettes have no worthwhile purpose, while cars to.

They told my father AND the courts that there was "no causal evidence" that smoking is bad for everyone's health. My lifelong asthma is a result of both parents smoking and then older siblings smoking in the house constantly.

My sister was able to kick her cocaine addiction but could never kick her cigarette addiction. Those companies market to kids and always have -- years ago it was by convincing kids that it's "cool" to smoke (are you old enough to remember Joe Camel?), and now with fruity-flavored vapes. They absolutely do not give AF about their victims and are recruiting new ones all the time.

I couldn't be happier if that entire f-ing industry died. Those companies are lying murderers.

I think people's views vary. Some separate the role from the product, while others prefer to work for organisations whose purpose aligns more closely with their own values.

My company went toxic in the last couple months. Chose me and started interviewing. Had a very successful interview with Amazon but recruiter is working hard trying to place me and said there’s no knowing how long to find a team. Meanwhile I just received a Director offer for a company with a 29% pay bump July 1. If Amazon or any other FAANG/large co gets back to me, is there an acceptable way to not burn bridges with new job and accept or delay start date with FAANG? Or fuck it just hop?

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks

First time poster here!

After spending 4 years as a mid-level ops manager, I tried to break into HR through talent acquisition. Now after 6 years in TA, I've had a hard time getting out of it. My goal was always to get into a more broad HRBP position, but I've since worked for smaller orgs without a solid HR career path. When I ask about my career goals, they keep telling me, "Soon!" Or "Maybe in 6 months!"

I'm testing SPHR in June. Any advice for securing the type of role I'm aiming for?

SPHR exam- has anyone ever been “randomly selected” for an application audit? This just happened to me and the sheer amount of effort that is going to go into collecting all the documents almost makes me not want to follow through. Since I didn’t finish undergrad, they’re asking for a copy of my high school diploma or transcript and that itself is going to be an absolute nightmare to get hold of. Guess I’m not really looking for a solution here, just venting.

Hi HR Professionals! I am revising our current employment application form. I was just curious what other Employers/HR Professional have done. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
