First year question, what type of credit card should I get? Chase Sapphire, AE? As we start easing back into travel I want to get a decent credit card to get some solids points.

Wait until you actually start traveling because most of these are you need to spend $X in X months to get certain rewards as well as have high annual fees. Also look at your firms policy around using personal cards because that will determine what you can actually use your card for which will also impact which card you choose.
Also good luck with the travel part, it’s probably going to be less common for most clients to want anyone under a manager or project manager/ lead on site anytime soon.

like

Who is going out a lot or traveling a lot right now, especially for work? That’s my point lol. Apparently according to the D advice below, personal cards are frowned upon anyways as I had also mentioned, so doesn’t really matter.

If you're traveling for firm business you'll be using your Deloitte card anyway. They frown upon personal card use and manual expenses.

likehelpful

Op not sure of your level but if you intend to go up for PMD in the next 10 years I’m not even kidding this will stop your promo / admittance to the partnership. You think “oh come on it’s just a few charges on my personal card” — NOPE it has seriously stopped people. The firm is very, very, very serious about compliance, It’s exhausting but it’s how we protect our brand and ultimately the value of equity.

Do NOT use personal card to book your travel/hotel at D. Will be excused first time. You’re going against clear firm policy. People have gotten fired for trying to take the system. Are points worth losing your job?

like

For travel you ll use corporate AMEX. Pay the yearly fee for the points

Amex gold if you spend large % discretionary spending on food/bars/groceries

Wait so what’s all the hype about consultants getting nice credit cards if we can’t even use them?

I think the Marriott bonvoy cards have value. Those hotel rates are often more than the annual fee. If you’re going to stay at a Marriott property once a year it’s worth it.

I have an offer and want to negotiate

1. London base salary but I have to absorb all the expenses (train + stay)
I am thinking to negotiate to

2. home base salary and have my expenses paid for

I know that's depends on the amount I have to travel (and potentially stay) but at the moment this is unknown. Past 8 months was just twice a month + 2 nights stay.

The only thing I know is it won't be every week, the return trian ticket is about £80-100, depends I could plan ahead.

Is it difficult to move without a reference. I got all the skills needed in current job market. But looks like getting a job call itself is difficult.

General Question I started tuition reimbursement last year in August. I since have an interview with another job that is paying a lot more. You know how you apply to something not really thinking that job would call back? Should I get an offer, what do I do about tuition Reimbursement? Do they send a check and tell me to pay it? Do they take it out of my 401k? I know a lot of people will say I never shouldve applied but I didn't think too much about actually get a call back when I applied.

Tomorrow they are requiring masks again and I was almost in tears when I found out. We have been mask free (recommended) since June and I feel like we are being muzzled again. I currently work as an APM at a FAANG company but recently received an offer to join an MBB. I’m very excited about the role but didn’t realize I’d need to take a pay cut when I applied (~100k base + ~20k bonus + ~60k equity vs. 90k base + 10-20k bonus). Considering that I currently work 40-60 hours/week, I’ll be making significantly less per hour at the MBB. I’m very interested in the opportunity but also don’t want to make a poor financial decision early in my career. Thank you for your time!
