I’ve moved to the tech industry in the Bay Area so this is what my experience has been
- people are super smart working on very interesting problems (Silicon Valley is years ahead of most consulting when it comes to tech)
- expectations are high but not unreasonable
- compensation is much better

Basically I’m doing better work for better pay with better hours.

like

- Larger paycheck
- More focus on building a product(s)
- No more client politics and stubbornness/slowness to change
- No more unnecessary client side requests (and OCD ppt formatting) to pile on ancillary work
- Having a standing desk instead of being cramped inside a conference room with no free food around

like

Lol @ associate1. No free food in consulting ? I have access to unlimited free food. Ever heard of UberEATS son? I’m getting fat as fuck. I’m Augustus gloop. I’m waiting for someone to start fanning me with palm leaves.

Curious as well since I’m moving to industry

Joined a startup:

+ Lifestyle is heaps better
+ Impact is real
+ Work is more interesting
+ Culture is more collaborative and less political
+ No clients to babysit
+ No 'optics' to manage

like

^sure someone else is paying for it while you're at the client site, but at most offices you have to order delivery/find a vending machine/walk to a Starbucks, etc to get it. I'm appreciating the sentiment (at my current job) that food is "open" and a perk for employees rather than something I need to expense

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks

Hi, fishes.
A quick query here.

I'm going to move from non IT profile to IT profile. Basically I'll be applying as front end engineer in new company. Previously I was working in a BPO profile.
Just wanted to ask if I'll be provided training in my initial months as a front end engineer or am I expected to work from the very first day.
Your comments will be really helpful.

Thank you.

Anyone dealt with age discrimination at work or thought they were fired because of it? I have a strong hunch I was let go because I'm older than most of the team and they're trying to get a "fresh perspective." To me it just sounds like they're firing anyone over 50.
