40k points are worth way more than $150
The only important question is how many years do you plan on keeping the card? That being said I have never seen an offer for a $150 credit every year.
If this is a long term card, statement credit offer assuming all normal plat benefits remain
Short term card = 100k offer.
Well your difference is 40K points for $400. And that will depend on how you use your points but generally the MR points are worth more than 1c per point so I would say go wth the 100K option
So pick 100k points and pay full membership at 550 bucks instead of 60k points and membership at 400k right?
Yes. Unless you use your points in a way that does not value your points greater than 1c/ point. It’s a very personal question and depends on how you redeem your points
This is my first card and first experience with using points. I plan to use the points for air tickets and air travel
Well you are essentially paying $400 for 40K points. In all likelihood if you book a Marriott hotel package you will end up with positive value. Even if you were to use Amex’s fixed flight program you would likely end up with positive value so I’d go with the 100K
Sorry. What do you mean by $150 statement credit??
Is this not a situation where in your first year, AF is $150 with a 60k bonus vs a $550 AF and 100k bonus points?
No. I may not have been clear. These are targeted Amex Platinum offers.
Offer 1 is 60000 points after 4K spend with $150 credit every year to statement which brings annual fee down to 400.
Offer 2 is 100k points after 4K spend with regular membership at 550 every year
So really it’s 40K points for an opportunity cost of $150? In that case 100% go with the 100K offer - that’s a no brainer. 40K points are worth more than $150 in almost any instance
What PwC1 said. Value of 40,000 points is close to $400.
I would go for 100K as 40K is worth more than $150. But what do you mean by every year?
Every year clause states (paraphrasing) as long as I maintain my corporate card, I will get 150 off my platinum card in the form of statement credit. That's what gets me interested. It's the gift that keeps on giving. I should have the card for at least 2 years
