Comp should be the alignment driver - titles can fluctuate a lot (even across the Big 5)
I’d probably creep the LinkedIn of those in this and comparable roles and see if their exp is comparable.
If you were BA to EM maybe tough to negotiate that
If you did an MBA, ASC, then EM, and ideally some relevant pre MBA exp. Yeah definitely.
Problem is Canadian banks don't pay well. Or any Canadian companies haha
Yeah agreed that you should negotiate. I don't know BMO levelling so can't comment on that
Also I've seen tenured EMs title themselves as Senior Engagement Manager when they're about the 2 year mark. Might be too late for BMO if you're already interviewing but maybe for future applications
But are you sure you want to work at a bank. The big 5 are low comp slow moving and I assume your role is gonna not be that interesting
Shoot for AVP or VP
Director is not a big role at the bank, try to get as an AVP at least
No, I am thinking in general, I am not thinking you will be at a branch, in general Director is not a high role in any banks’s structure and will take time to move to avp, so if you can save time and enter as avp why not, unless you don’t have the support to get to that role
BMO, RBC, Scotia strategy teams -> you're almost certainly joining as a Director with little wiggle room unless you have crazy FS experience or did something super relevant pre-MBA. Given your years of exp, I would try to make a case for yourself to go SD/AVP/MD but the teams tend to have strong precedent with people of 2nd year EMs/PLs joining as Directors
Sunlife and Manulife, you can make a case for AVP.
Just look on LinkedIn and see the paths that people took, you'll see the above to be true majority of the time
This would be in line with what I’d expect when leaving as an EM
Comp?
That is the problem. I have golden handcuffs. The best scenario is also 50-80K short
It is an “it depends” answer. Theoretic yes but not simple. Above D is only MD. Some groups pay MD 140-145 and others pay SM -145-50
Hierarchy is M > SM > D > MD ( some groups have AD between SM and D )
Do consider comp. D at Insurance orgs pays way better than banks. Hope this helps. Happy to chat more via dm if you’d like
Expect a 15-20% reduction in comp min.
Way more than 15-20% compared to Mckinsey pay. Almost 50%
