Why don’t you ask for a permanent position instead another 1 year contract ? Seem that need you.
Why there is not open posible if they clearly need you ? I would push them for the position.
You need to treat this as a B2B negotiation; you are not an employee.
As someone who regularly manages contracts and contract workers, if they are not asking for an increase I’m not going offer one. I am not going to offer a rate increase to a service provider…
Think of it this way; would you offer to pay more to renew your cell phone contract?
You need to understand the market for your services, the value you are providing, what leverage you have, and negotiate accordingly.

Anyhow, my reason for requesting a raise is sound. Since I'm being hired on a new contract, I should be compensated for the 1 extra year of experience I'm bringing. It's not much, but something still.
