Where’s my K Swiss?
I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?
My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.
L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.

^ cool story but I highly doubt you told the partners to promote you or fuck off
Promoted after 2 years. Told the partners to promote me or fuck off! Told them I'll go be a associate 3 at another firm if they didn't promote me rather than make them money.
You get paid better than a staff 2 but worse than a senior. You don't have the title but nobody really cares if you're looking to leave.
You can primary review as a second or third year at PwC, but a manager or above has to review secondary after that review. I imagine pay at all "3rd year" levels whether associate or senior are somewhat comparable given that it's years of experience. The only difference may be the promotion merit increase that makes it different. I think expectations may be different across the firms too, but who knows
I got promoted to senior after 2 years. 1st year just regular associate, 2nd year - acting senior. I was a real senior by year 3. But I'm in tax, not sure if other LoS have mandatory 3yr rule or something
@OP Depends on the size of the job you end up on and whether or not it's public. Public jobs can't have anyone but a manager final review anything, even seniors can't final review so you definitely won't be reviewing as a third year. Some may make you "senior" others may not, it's all about where you end up.
