We're locked out of our computer and all email if we don't submit our timesheets in time. Its annoying but I can tell you I make sure my time is submitted.
Same at CM and I believe all Omnicom agencies.
Thoughts on this?:
Maybe incentivize it more. Incentivizing is a great way to get compliance without as much stress and ire as associated with punishment. Like, earn more PTO for every month of consistent compliance. I’d love that!
Honestly, time tracking apps are a great help with inputting my time. I use toggle track daily, and get my daily and weekly totals with one click. Easy entry in time sheets actually helps with motivation in getting it done. Human nature!
Compliance is always easier if you give people the tools to make it less painful/time consuming.
Really, not enough thought is put toward making life easier with the mundane aspects of worker responsibilities. There should be a role on staff dedicated to that—from time entry to updating worker resumes with ongoing completed work to improving process efficiencies and workflow optimization. There’s plenty of “time=money” savings to be realized…
Yep - it may impact promos, raises, etc but most importantly your bill ability is your job security. Get your time in!

100% on this. The super billable people are usually the ones that stick around come RIF time.
I haven't been at an agency for a few years but we would get written up if we didn't submit time sheets on time and it was honestly so stressful, I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I think you just have to learn to hold yourself accountable.
This is so incredibly helpful, thank you! I’ll definitely be proposing this internally.
And have to check out toggle. Anything to help streamline this!
They turned off my email until I completed my report.

We do this. I don't mind it, but it sometimes take an hour or more for the system to reset and let us back in. I wish it would happen more instantly and I think this would be the fair approach.
Which kind of repercussions do you mean? If we miss timesheet deadlines, it often triggers billing delays, client disputes, and even reduced utilization targets that hurt your performance metrics. So, we have system in place to avoid that as much as possible.
Got it now, I have seen agencies do the looks, and it is a great reminder, but the way we do it is by setting up automated calendar nudges, and sending a friendly weekly reminder in your agency’s chat can keep everyone on track. We have even gamified it, sending small shout-outs for on-time submissions to incentivize the team, now people are just used to it, and they submit on time.
Years ago I worked at a place that didn’t have direct deposit. And if your timesheets weren’t in on payday you didn’t get your check, because, in the words of the CFO, “how did I know you worked?”
It sucked, but there was 100% timesheet compliance.
That doesn’t just suck, that’s a labor law violation.
