Same people get on everything. Hearing them complain is grating. I also feel like the times I’m involved I hear nothing but praise and enthusiasm from account and creative. And I’ve been told I’m a great presenter. I have trouble though not being asked unless I more or less send direct emails or be very vocal which feels so desperate and needy. Self absorbed. But the same 2-3 strategists are on literally everything (in addition to the accounts “they’ve won”) and we are a 300+ agency. Not surprisingly they have been promoted from my rank and I see/hear that our skills are equal. I’m also older. Which has crossed my mind. I’m the old boring mom person when there’s all these naive interesting types floating around. Ugh.
I also think there are plenty of situations where with a little planning, more voices could be included. Every time I participate in new biz I get comments about the value I bring... but if I ask to be included in something I often hear... I know we’d love to have you involved if you had the time. But the reality is if they didn’t wait until 3 days before the rfp response is due to start, I prob would be able to participate. So it ends up being the same people over and over...
curious if that is what others experience or for those of you who do participate often... is it just that you do the long hours and late nights (which I have done plenty of, but I can’t do all the time) OR does your team plan so that new voices can be included.
I’d say this prob applies not just to parents but also to people that aren’t always involved in new biz but would take a little additional time to learn the new biz process.
I do the long hours and late nights but I do as much as I can from home. I leave by 540-6, have dinner with them and evening routine and then pick back up again if needed. I plan later coverage for the week or so leading up to the pitch meeting. It sucks when you are in it but it’s temporary. Also I raise my hand and get the work down regardless of where I am. If if anyone tries to tell me I can’t handle it I swiftly corrected that perception. And if it’s not a good time, I let them know that too.
