This is great. Connecting marketing activities to business results is also important. When I was agency side we focused a lot on impressions and other vanity metrics. However, I befriended someone on our analytics team and was able to see how much traffic and how many leads we acquired for our client. That made the difference.
+1 to both comments. relationship building and stakeholder management are important. people need to like working with you and feel like they can come to you to find answers. execution is big too...you need to figure out ways to get things done...even if not everyone is on board. and of course analytics. understanding how to measure business impact and get credit for driving it is def key.
