OP: I am so sorry. If it’s any consolation to you, though, getting laid off back in 2013 was one of the best things to happen to me. I got out of a dead-end job seamlessly, was given severance, hit the ground running, and found work immediately. I ended up at KPMG and started grad school. It was a blessing
Same! My old firm was using me in roles that weren't fit for me. Getting laid off really focused my career.
If you need a referral, reach out and I’ll see if I can help
Third-Ed! The whole industry is in a hiring spree
The meeting was set up with no location. Then a couple of hours before the meeting the room was put in which was extremely far from the usual location of where the team sat. Then they dropped the axe on me with no warning whatsoever
Thank you but it happened a while ago. It sucked when it happened without warning. It felt like a betrayal especially since my utilization was in the 90s. But since then I moved on to a different firm with generally better people, better opportunities, and better prospects. Only advice is to start working proactively before the axe drops. If your gut says something is not right then start moving now. All the best
My former company was doing quarterly layoffs for a few years, you basically got a random meeting planner from a leader you wouldn’t normally have a 1-1 with. But turns out sometimes these meetings were to tell you you were staying; sometimes they were laying you off. So just wait and see. And be happy if there’s a package!
Yes this is about right!
Our group knew we were going to lose some people due to budget changes, but didn’t know who and when. Right before a team dinner on Thursday night, we each got 15 minute meetings put on our calendars. My friend’s was at 8:00am and mine at 8:30am. At that point it was pretty clear who was getting the chop. Next morning things went as we expected.
Good news is that I landed a great new gig at a 20% pay bump. 😊
I was on the chopping board last time and my manager told me she had a discussion with HR and warned me what the conditions were. I was benched for 5 weeks at the time. I think your manager will tell you something is up. Mine didn’t say directly I am for sure getting fired but it did not seem good. Found a project the next day and it was a major relief. I wish you the best of luck! Hang in there! You’re strong and will go through this okay. Start applying elsewhere for now and keep yourself moving forward. Don’t look back.
I have been laid off. It was a blessing. Just prepare urself for opportunities. It's out there
OP, I’m also hiring. If you DM with your location and industry and expertise areas I can let you know if you would be a fit for what I am looking for. I don’t want to say anything here to self identify
For what it is worth, if you are sensing the situation is not ideal, trust the instinct. Either be proactive and pursue candid feedback or start looking at other opportunities. Being in the driver's seat is preferable to having someone else make the decisions for you.
What makes you feel this way? Are you on bench?
Not on the bench. Just piecing together several conversations.
Did they schedule a meeting with you, yet?
good looking out SM
