For those who hired a nanny, what contracts or resources did you use in writing your contract? Would love to find a template that’s fair to both the nanny parent and nanny. I also would love any resources for drafting a comprehensive nanny contract that incorporates the industry standard while protecting parents. We’re in a HCOL area where a few nannies in the local Facebook groups are very aggressive on the “industry standard” but I’m unable to independently confirm with any nanny parents.

To the original poster, we just have an oral agreement and pay her through a payroll service that handles our estimated tax payments, unemployment contributions, etc. She's paid weekly for 50 hours and gets 1.5x for those extra 10 each week. We agreed to 2 weeks paid vacation, but do not strictly enforce that - she's part of the family (been with us for 4 years) and on the other side doesn't mind staying an extra 15-20 minutes if one of us is running late. One general market term is that our vacation does not count as her vacation, so if we take the kids for a long weekend, those 2-3 days do not count against her (nebulous) 2 week total.

Continued: I’ve looked into a consultation with an agency but haven’t found a reputable agency by us that does consultations without placement (using an agency for placement is likely out of our budget given the additional 15-20% fee).

Anyone feel as if it’s hard to stay with a company when you’re the only one of color? (&young) I’ve work for 3 companies in past 5 years and have yet to make meaningful colleague relationships. I just do not relate to the conversation and just find it hard to picture myself being a long-term employee. I’ve had better relationships when working at wal-mart when I was in college. I feel it takes away some of the joy of having to go to work.

From a financial standpoint in this market, which would be a better approach in Austin -

1. Buy a ~8-850k house that meets most of our ideal criteria (size, schools, interiors etc) to stay long term

2. Buy a ~5-550k house that’s not ideal with the plan of moving into an ideal home in 4-5 years when kid is ready for school.

How easy is it to get a mortgage for the second home?

Household income - 300k

Happy to add more details as needed

Advice and/or consolation anyone? My wife and I (both above average health 30year olds) were trying for 11 months before getting pregnant and then had a week 5 early miscarriage a few months back. If the stress and surprise of just how difficult it apparently is to get pregnant wasn’t enough, the miscarriage put us over. We got back to it and have been trying for the last 2 months again, still no luck. We’re freaking out… all we want is a family. Any similar stories? Advice? 😢

How do you handle people’s kids showing up on video meetings? Screaming, kicking, hamming it up, (wasting time.) Everyone else is coo-ing…I’m not a kids person. Heard a technique which is to drop off the call bc you “assume the call is over” (which seems like a great way to get fired especially if it’s a way higher up’s kids - plus it feels rather passive aggressive.) Thoughts?

Yet all of these associates say they are “at capacity”, and myself and another associate still end up being assigned work instead of them. How do we handle this? For reference, all associates are around the firms minimum requirement, it’s just that a few of us are 30+% over and it is leading to burnout.
