Check energybot.com.
They help you compare plans and cost based on your house’s actual usage.
Thanks for this referral!
$0.08045 before Oncor delivery charges. Signed up for a 5 year plan at the end of last year with Cirro. The 3 years before that had an incredible $0.0456 plan with them.
I think Oncor delivery charges are a combination of fixed and variables, and rate increases aren’t part of your fixed term contract. But it’s the same regardless of your electricity company.
Check out Energy Ogre. This subscription service ($10 a month) will use its algorithms to locate the best plan for you. EO takes care of all the switching. Been with EO for years and I recommend the service to everyone. Many of my family members and coworkers signed up! Great customer service.
Reason for my question is variable rate contracts are always more expensive than fixed. Adding $10/mo on top of that I find it hard to believe the total cost is actually lower. What has your average kWh rate been?
I'm getting screwed! Lol mine is like .15 per.
Lots of people are getting screwed.
Even if you were on a great plan, the plan will expire at some point and your rate can increase significantly.

Recommend https://www.texaspowerguide.com/. It's cheaper then Energy Ogre but the same idea. It's actually easy enough to match up the plans generated from the spreadsheet to Powertochoose so you can actually use the tool for free. He also has a bunch of other good info about choosing plans on his website

Every time my contract would expire, I’d check powertochoose.com and see who had the best rate/terms/fees etc at the time and then go with them.
Now I’m with energy ogre which basically does it for you but you don’t have to do any of the research and comparison for yourself lol
What is so great about Energy Orge. Isn’t it like 5-10 minutes of research once every few years to figure out who has the lowest rate. Even if you check periodically mid contract (I do) to make sure rates haven’t gone down quite a bit, it doesn’t take much time. What do you get for your $120 per year? Do they negotiate better rates? Am I missing something they do?
